Somebody- Anybody- Please Tell Me This Is A Joke!

For the love of all that is good, this cannot possibly be true. Hollywood is doing a sequel to It's A Wonderful Life.

From Creative Minority Report:

Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey’s daughter “Zuzu” in the original, will return for the “Wonderful Life” sequel as an angel who shows Bailey’s unlikeable grandson (also named George Bailey) how much better off the world would have been had he never been born.

Huh? That's the plot to an episode of Married With Children, a parody of It's A Wonderful Life. I can't believe I live in a universe where someone thought it necessary and potentially profitable to rip off a rip off.

If it isn't bad enough that we have people coming up with purely materialist interpretations of It's A Wonderful Life which tell us that George was no better off when he woke up Christmas morning than when he went to bed the night before, or that Pottersville would have fared better under the current economic crisis than Bedford Falls, we now have this mess. What is the point of crafting a beloved masterpiece if some random hack can come along and twist it into something horrible?

There is one small thing that gives me comfort. This isn't the first sequel to It's A Wonderful Life. There was another one some years ago called Clarence. Ever heard of it? There's a reason for that. It came, went and was forgotten, and hopefully so will this one (if it is true that someone is making it. I still have hope.). The original will endure long after the sequel is no longer even a bad memory.
